The TJFB - DFO Collaborative Post-Season Trap Survey for Snow Crab in NAFO Division 2H and 2J North was completed August 26th to August 31st, 2015. The results are being analyzed for stock assessment. The survey consists of 20 stations in a grid system that varies by depth. Small mesh pots are used in shallow locations that target females, juveniles and adolescent males to give an indication of recruitment prospects and larval production in the area. All adult commercial-sized males are tagged to gather information on mortality rates and abundance in the region. Once harvesters encounter a tagged crab, the location information will be submitted to the Secretariat for a reward. Five tags have been found during the commercial fishery so far. This is the third annual such survey.
