The Labrador Hunting and Fishing Association (LHAFA) is a not-for-profit organization run completely by volunteers. Today, the LHAFA presented at one of our Lunch and Learns. They talked about their current projects. One project is the boat launch at Terrington Basin which they have worked diligently to improve and maintain. They have built two 54 ft floating docks to provide easier access to boarding pleasure crafts and have poured some concrete to make launching a breeze. Recently two picnic tables have been put near the launch and there are multiple garbage bins in the area to keep it clean. They are also in the process of building a shooting range and a marina.

This boating season, the LHAFA has partnered with Transport Canada to promote safe boating. This program is being implemented by two summer students; they spend some time at the boat launch giving courtesy checks and encouraging boaters to wear PFDs. The Association is very busy as they are dedicated to improving facilities for all hunters, fishers and outdoor enthusiasts. The Lunch and Learn was a success and the discussions and questions were insightful. For more information on the Labrador Hunting and Fishing Association, visit www.LHAFA.org.

The Torngat Secretariat will be hosting another Lunch and Learn on Wednesday, August 6th. This Lunch and Learn will showcase Erica Oberndorfer's research on the relationship between plants and people in Makkovik. To RSVP please email hvgb.student@torngatsecretariat.ca.
