TWPCB Extends Expressions of Interest

The Torngat Wildlife and Plants Co-Management Board (TWPCB) is an Institution of Public Government created from the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement(LILCA).

The Torngat Wildlife Plants and Fisheries Secretariat welcomes Bryn Wood as their new GIS Specialist. Bryn has a BSc in Geography from Memorial University in Newfoundland (MUN) and has completed a graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems from Pennsylvania State University in the U.S. He is currently working on a Master's degree in Geography from MUN. Bryn has been employed with Federal, Provincial and Aboriginal Governments in Labrador. He has worked with a range of issues relating to natural resources including the monitoring of the impacts of low level flying, traditional land use, forestry resources, landscape modelling and land registry development.
Snow Crab Surveys in Labrador

The deadline for applications to conduct the Snow Crab Surveys in Labrador has been extended to May 24, 2012. Current and recent graduates in biology and resource management encouraged to apply.
Turbot Fishing Vessel

The Torngat Joint Fisheries Board is seeking expressions of interest from qualified fishers and vessel owners to supply a survey vessel and crew. The objective of the Exploratory Fishing Survey is to determine the abundance and distribution of Turbot within the Labrador Inuit Settlement Area (LISA), as well as, to establish a baseline study of Turbot within non-traditionally fished areas that may provide management and harvesting opportunities within Nunatsiavut.

Snow Crab Surveys in Labrador

The Torngat Wildlife, Plants and Fisheries Secretariat is now seeking Expressions of Interest for a researcher to conduct Snow Crab Surveys in the Labrador region. A tagging program and a recruitment survey for juvenile and female crab will be carried out in collaboration with Nunatsiavut fishers during the 2012 commercial season. The design and implementation of the surveys achieved consensus with stakeholders at the Snow Crab Workshop in 2011.
