First Moose License Ever Used in Nain

Moose meat isn't something you'd usually expect to find in the community freezers along the north coast.

Well, that's exactly what you can find at Nain's community freezer following the first legal moose kill for the community.

Joey Angnatok claims the title of the first person to make use of a moose license for Nain.

Licenses were made available to residents of the community for the first time this year.

Angnatok says he and other hunters had been tracking the moose for two days.

He finally encountered the animal almost five kilometres west of Nain.

The moose was female and weighed around 600-700 pounds.

He transported the large animal back to the community by snowmobile and then by truck inside of the community.

Angnatok said preparing the cuts of the moose was similar to a caribou except in larger portions.
